The spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, indicated today, Friday, that there are no plans to attack NATO countries, stating that the alliance is the one fueling tension. She pointed to the NATO summit declaration that stated "Russia still represents the greatest direct threat to the alliance's security." Zakharova remarked that the alliance is attempting to "justify its existence and strengthen Washington's control over European satellites." Western leaders have repeatedly claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin would command his army to proceed and attack NATO countries in Central and Eastern Europe if he is not stopped in Ukraine.
