Former U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Friday that his criminal trial in New York was "extremely unfair," following his conviction on Thursday for falsifying business records to cover up a $130,000 payment made to silence pornographic actress Stormy Daniels. The Republican presidential candidate for the upcoming November elections accused Democratic President Joe Biden and his "gang" of being "sick" and "fascist." Trump added, "We will appeal this fraud."
After a six-week trial in a New York court, the jury found the former president guilty of 34 counts related to falsifying business records to conceal payments made to Daniels. Trump remarked, "You saw what happened to some of the witnesses who were on our side; they were crucified, literally."
The former president began his statement by referencing immigration in the U.S., a key issue in the presidential campaign between Democrats and Republicans, stating that immigrants "are coming into our country from all over the world, and we have a president and a gang of fascists who don't want to do anything about it."
For his part, President Joe Biden wrote on platform X that former President Donald Trump "threatens our democracy." Biden, who faces off against his Republican predecessor in the November presidential elections, noted, "First, he questioned our electoral system; later, he questioned our judicial system. And now you can arrest him."
