French President Emmanuel Macron revealed on Sunday that the father of star Kylian Mbappé confirmed to him the Paris Saint-Germain forward's desire to participate in the upcoming Olympics, set to take place next summer in Paris. He expressed hope that clubs would allow players to join the "Les Bleus" national team.
In an interview with "La Tribune Dimanche," Macron stated: "I spoke with Mbappé's father last week, I asked him the question, and he confirmed to me that the player wants to be with the France team in the Olympics. I really hope that all European clubs grant players the freedom to make this decision. I am happy that all French teams have done so, and I hope other clubs will follow suit."
The captain of the blue team has previously stated on several occasions that he dreams of competing in the Paris Olympics, benefiting from the Olympic system that allows each team to include three players over the age limit of 23.
French newspaper "Le Parisien" reported that Mbappé will leave Paris Saint-Germain next summer to join Real Madrid, noting that the Spanish club has informed the French Football Federation that they will not allow their French players to participate in the Paris Olympics.
