Title: Safe Return of Syrian Refugees is Our Priority, Says Assad

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad emphasized that "the safe return of Syrian refugees to their villages and towns is a priority for the Syrian state, with the necessity to secure the infrastructure for this return and the requirements for reconstruction and rehabilitation in all its forms, supported by early recovery projects that enable returnees to regain their normal life cycle." After meeting with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Monday, Assad noted that "all measures taken by the Syrian state, whether at the legislative or legal level or in terms of reconciliations, contribute to providing the best environment for the return of refugees, reiterating that the refugee issue is purely humanitarian and ethical and should not be politicized in any way."

President Bashar al-Assad discussed the file of the return of Syrian refugees and the bilateral relations between Jordan and Syria with Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi during his reception of the minister today. Safadi presented the latest efforts made by Jordan regarding the return of Syrian refugees and the new ideas that have emerged in this regard, in coordination with the Arab Contact Group and the United Nations, affirming "his country's support for stability in Syria and its readiness to work with the Syrian government in areas of mutual cooperation that contribute to the return of Syrian refugees," while pointing out that "a gradual approach to addressing the aftermath of the crisis in Syria is the most realistic and beneficial option."

Earlier in the day, Safadi arrived in Damascus and met with his Syrian counterpart Faisal al-Miqdad. This visit marks Safadi's second to Syria since February, following a meeting in Amman that paved the way for Syria's return to the Arab League at the Jeddah summit. Safadi's visit aims to discuss solutions to the Syrian crisis and several bilateral issues.
