Social media users shared shocking images on Monday showing the severely damaged nose of an aircraft in Austria due to thunderstorms that hit the country. According to Austrian media, a hailstorm caused significant damage to a passenger plane as it approached Vienna Airport on Sunday. The hail shattered part of the aircraft's nose and cracked the cockpit windows of the Austrian Airlines plane, which was carrying tourists returning from Palma de Mallorca.
After a Mayday call, the aircraft safely landed at Vienna Airport, and neither passengers nor crew members were harmed in the incident. The airline stated in an official announcement on Monday: "According to the cockpit crew, the storm was not visible on the weather radar." Austria is currently experiencing a wave of violent thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rains, resulting in flooding across the country.
