Saudi Arabia Announces the Establishment of a Global Water Organization

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced the establishment of a global water organization based in Riyadh, aiming to develop and integrate the efforts of countries and organizations to address water challenges comprehensively. This will be achieved through the exchange and enhancement of technical experiences, innovation, research, and development, enabling the establishment of priority quality projects and facilitating their funding, in pursuit of ensuring the sustainability of water resources and enhancing opportunities for everyone to access them.

The Saudi Press Agency "SPA" reported that this initiative reaffirms the Kingdom's role in addressing global water challenges and its commitment to environmental sustainability issues, stemming from decades of pioneering global experience in producing, transporting, and distributing water and innovating technical solutions to its challenges. The Kingdom has contributed to placing water issues at the top of the international agenda, including providing over $6 billion in funding to countries across four continents for water and sanitation projects.

According to "SPA", the organization will work to achieve its goals with countries facing water challenges and prioritize related projects on their national agendas, in addition to countries that possess effective expertise and contributions in water solutions, given the expectation of a doubling in global water demand by 2050, as the world population is projected to reach 9.8 billion.

The agency stated that Saudi Arabia, in collaboration with member countries, aims to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals aimed at ensuring water availability and achieving a comprehensive impact through collective efforts to pave the way for a secure and sustainable water future for all.
