An informed source revealed that American forces in Iraq have entered a high alert status, indicating that this may lead to the beginning of a new tense phase with armed factions. The source stated in a conversation with "Baghdad Today" that "Ain al-Assad base, where American forces are stationed, has witnessed intense flights of warplanes, especially drones, following the crash of an unknown drone near a watchtower in the western part of the base yesterday evening amid reports of an attack by one of the Iraqi armed factions."
The source added, "Although no armed faction has claimed responsibility for targeting Ain al-Assad base, and the drone that targeted the tower is not of the types previously used in targeting the base according to sources, the American forces have significantly tightened precautionary measures."
The source clarified that "reports regarding damage and injuries at Ain al-Assad due to the unknown drone are inaccurate, but the alert status for American forces has been raised to the highest level, amid expectations that this may indeed begin a new tense phase with armed factions."
Ain al-Assad base in Anbar Province was attacked yesterday, Tuesday, by two drones, which were shot down in the vicinity of the base that houses American forces. In early February, attacks on American forces in Iraq and Syria stopped after a drone attack killed three American soldiers in Jordan. In response, the United States carried out airstrikes on locations in Iraq and Syria.
