Communications and Meetings Away from the Media... Is the Election of the President Approaching?

Deputy Ghassan Skaf pointed out that the biggest challenge facing the Lebanese in 2023 lies primarily in electing a president. Skaf stated in an interview with the "Anbaa" electronic newspaper: "If we manage to elect a president at the start of the new year, we will begin to see a way to solve all our problems. Once the presidential election is completed, all matters will be on the right track," expressing optimism that the efforts being made could lead to the desired solution. However, if the efforts fail, it would mean entering the unknown and worsening the crisis significantly.

Skaf revealed that communications and meetings are intensifying away from the media in order to reach a resolution, adding: "If we manage to elect a president and embark on forming an effective government, there will be no difficulty in addressing the economic crisis because it is impossible to manage the economic situation with a caretaker government, especially if we continue without a president." He criticized the focus on external support, saying: "It is true that we need this support and to reach out for help to get out of this crisis, but we cannot rely on it before we help ourselves. We cannot remain idle doing nothing while waiting for external assistance."

Skaf also discussed efforts he is undertaking with a number of deputies in this context, promising to reveal the results of these efforts once they achieve their goals to avoid jumping the gun. He noted upcoming visits next week to Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi, President Nabih Berri, and representatives from "Hezbollah" to reach common ground.
