Khatami Meets Khamenei's Brother Amid Criticism of Iranian-US Negotiations

Reports from Iranian media on Tuesday revealed that Hadi Khamenei, the brother of Iran's Supreme Leader, hosted former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami. This meeting follows Khatami's recent criticism of Iranian leadership's handling of negotiations with the United States. Khatami cautioned that squandering the memorandum of understanding with Washington could prove costly for Iran. During his meeting with Hadi Khamenei, he stressed the need for diplomacy, rationality, and efforts to achieve calm. Hadi Khamenei remarked that Khatami's positions are significant and merit attention in the context of the country's political strategies. This meeting coincides with diplomatic efforts to break the stalemate between Tehran and Washington. High-level sources disclosed to 'Al Arabiya' that Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir presented Iran with an American proposal. This proposal involves halting the naval blockade and lifting sanctions under the memorandum of understanding in exchange for opening the Strait of Hormuz and stopping attacks by Tehran-linked groups. Munir informed Iran's Supreme National Security Council Secretary, Mohsen Rezaee, that Pakistan remains neutral and seeks a permanent end to the conflict. Additionally, Munir urged a resumption of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and an end to attacks, emphasizing that both the US and Tehran are responsible for violations that have disrupted understandings. Sources reported that Rezaee told the Pakistani army chief that Tehran seeks a lasting solution to the crisis, will continue internal consultations, and will soon provide a response.
