The Iraqi Federal Integrity Commission announced today, Thursday, that it has identified a waste of $10 million in the Al-Gharaf oil field. The commission stated in a release that "the investigation team from Dhi Qar has uncovered, alongside the National Intelligence Service and after reviewing reports from the external auditing department and appointed experts, manipulation in the monthly operating records of the Italian company working in the Al-Gharaf oil field, and in the laboratory test samples for the export rate and targeted production quantities; which resulted in waste amounting to more than $10 million of public funds."
It added that "the director general of Dhi Qar Oil Company committed violations and abused his position by appointing five individuals from the same family as contractual and daily workers, and one of them received more than one plot of land in violation of the law."
The statement also noted that "waste amounting to 2,042,850,000 Iraqi dinars was identified, representing the amounts owed by the defaulting companies to which projects were referred by the governorate," warning of "the acceptance of letters of guarantee from two banks, despite the lack of any deposits from those companies with the banks," emphasizing that "as a result of investigation procedures by the office, part of the aforementioned amount was recovered."
Additionally, it clarified that "the team captured records for the disbursement of overtime amounts for workers at Al-Nasiriya power station for the years 2021, 2022, and 2023, which were paid without presenting work reports for the previous periods at the time of renewing the orders and without confirming the employees' attendance in the official records according to the instructions and regulations of the Ministry of Finance," stating that "an amount of 279,107,750 million dinars was paid for wages and overtime in violation of the instructions."
