Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi warned today, Saturday, about the dangers of the ongoing Israeli military operations in the Palestinian city of Rafah, and how they exacerbate the humanitarian disaster that the residents of the Gaza Strip are suffering from, as well as their implications on regional security. Sisi, during his meeting with U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, the Republican minority leader on the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Foreign Operations, stressed the necessity for all parties to engage seriously in reaching a ceasefire agreement, which would allow progress towards implementing the two-state solution, being the optimal path to ensure justice and sustainable security in the region, according to the Egyptian President.
The official spokesman for the Egyptian presidency mentioned that "Senator Graham praised during the meeting the pivotal and essential role that Egypt plays in supporting security and stability in the region, in addition to the strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States, which consecutive regional and global crises have proven the importance of continuing efforts to enhance it, as it is one of the key pillars of regional stability." He noted Graham's appreciation for the efforts and mediation by Egypt to contain the situation in the Gaza Strip, as well as acknowledging the burdens Egypt bears to deliver humanitarian aid.
Furthermore, Graham was keen to listen to Sisi's vision regarding ways to resolve the crisis in the Gaza Strip, where Sisi emphasized the importance of international cooperation to halt the war and prevent its humanitarian and security ramifications from expanding.
