UAE: Heavy Rains Two Weeks After Floods... To Avoid Rumors and False Information

Dubai and most areas of the UAE have experienced heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours, nearly two weeks after floods caused by record rainfall, the highest in 75 years. The National Center of Meteorology in the UAE previously issued a statement announcing that the country would witness medium to heavy rain from Wednesday night to Thursday in various areas, accompanied by occasional thunder and lightning, as well as a chance of small hailstones.

The Ministry of Interior, in coordination with the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, recommended "activating remote learning for Thursday and Friday for all educational institutions, with decisions to be made by the relevant authorities at the federal level and local emergency management leaders, each within their jurisdiction and in coordination with the Ministry of Education and the Emirates Schools Establishment according to the developments of the situation and its impact," according to a report by the UAE’s official news agency.

The agency's report also mentioned that "it was recommended to activate remote work for all government and private sector institutions for Thursday and Friday, except for essential functions that require physical presence or those involved in response and recovery efforts from the weather phenomenon, with decisions to be taken by relevant authorities at the federal level and local emergency management leaders, each within their jurisdiction based on developments and their impact."

The report clarified that "the Ministry of Interior, in coordination with the Emergency and Crisis Authority, decided to close all roads leading to areas with runoff channels, water gatherings, and dams during the weather event. They urged the public to stay away from these areas and adhere to the directives of the specialized field teams, avoiding mountainous, desert, and sea areas at this time to ensure their safety, and to follow all procedures announced by official entities while sourcing accurate information from official channels in the state, to avoid circulating rumors and false information."
