Measures by the Lebanese Minister of Public Works to Secure Mountain Roads

The Minister of Public Works and Transport in the caretaker government, Ali Hamieh, met this Wednesday afternoon in his office with the Secretary of the "Democratic Gathering," MP Hadi Abu al-Hassan, to discuss regional development issues related to the ministry, including the topic of landslides and rock falls on some mountain roads and the resulting damages, particularly in the districts of Chouf, Aley, and Baabda. Hamieh pointed out that he had directed "all concerned parties during meetings at the ministry to follow up on the issue of landslides on highways and public roads, emphasizing the need to exert all efforts, within available resources, to remove any obstacles that may fall on the roads, especially the mountainous ones, due to heavy rainfall and the formation of torrents."

He also mentioned that he had given directives "to start immediate inspections of potential landslide areas, especially in the Chouf, Baabda, and Aley districts," explaining that "files for the landslides are being prepared to secure the necessary and rapid funding for them, particularly since this issue concerns public safety and traffic on one hand, and facilitates citizens' movement and their access to their towns and areas on the other."

For his part, Abu al-Hassan thanked the Minister of Public Works for his "responsiveness and quick action, as well as for providing the necessary directives to follow up immediately on some landslides that recently occurred on certain roads in Mount Lebanon," wishing for "the necessary measures and precautions to be taken to ensure the safety of citizens."
