Since the launch of the globally renowned artificial intelligence application, ChatGPT, to the public in 2022, Apple has not spoken much about generative AI. However, this changed on Monday when its CEO announced a series of AI products, including a deal with the creators of ChatGPT, alongside Apple's personal AI system called Apple Intelligence. According to a report published by Sky News, Apple Intelligence is a set of features that includes text and image generation, along with an enhanced version of the virtual assistant Siri, which will be supported by the integration of ChatGPT into the company's products.
This new collaboration has faced criticism regarding the security implications of allowing Siri to extract information from ChatGPT, especially since many users provide their information to the latter. Nevertheless, amid stagnating iPhone sales and increasing competition in China, Apple has faced growing pressure to develop its AI services and deliver innovations in this area, especially after its competitors, including Microsoft and Meta, had already made advances.
