Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants in the caretaker government, Abdullah Buhbib, received a phone call from Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko, who thanked Lebanon for "hosting the displaced and the burdens it bears," and informed him that "Japan has decided to resume its contributions to UNRWA." Buhbib thanked her for this decision, emphasizing the "importance of UNRWA funding as a mutual interest to guarantee a better future and maintain hope for a just solution to the Palestinian issue." The two ministers, Buhbib and Yoko, agreed on "the importance and necessity of an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the implementation of a two-state solution, and the dangers of the attack on Rafah and the potential repercussions and humanitarian catastrophe it may cause." Buhbib also confirmed "the importance of stability and calm in southern Lebanon through the full and comprehensive implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which prevents the specter of war and explosion, as Lebanon does not want war and does not seek it."
A delegation from the German embassy was received by Buhbib, headed by German Ambassador George Stuhlfreid, and an agreement was signed aimed at establishing a local office for the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and a local office for the German Reconstruction Bank (KfW) in Lebanon. Buhbib also met with Chinese Ambassador Qian Mingjian, who invited him to participate in the 10th Ministerial Meeting of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum to be held in Beijing on May 30, 2024.
