Iraqi Parliament Threatens to Take a Firm Stance on International Coalition

The Security and Defense Committee in the Iraqi parliament confirmed today, Saturday, that it will adopt a firm stance if it senses delays in finalizing the issue of ending the international coalition's mission. Committee Chairman Karim Al-Mohamdaoui stated to "Baghdad Today" that "Iraq continues negotiations with the American side regarding the termination of the international coalition's mission and the withdrawal of all American and foreign forces in general, and there is no halt to this negotiation." He pointed out that "the coming days will witness a new meeting for the joint technical and military committees in a new round of negotiations."

Al-Mohamdaoui emphasized that "we trust the steps of the Iraqi government regarding the resolution of foreign presence; it is serious about this step. However, at the same time, we have concerns regarding the American side, as it seeks to procrastinate in concluding the negotiations and aims to maintain its military presence in Iraq under new justifications and names. This is certainly politically and publicly rejected, and we will not allow it at all."

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee affirmed that "we are monitoring the results of the negotiation and dialogue rounds between Baghdad and Washington continuously, and we will adopt a firm stance if we notice any attempts to procrastinate in resolving this file. There must be a clear and announced timetable for the American withdrawal from Iraq." Since the beginning of this year, negotiations have been announced between the Iraqi and American sides to end the mission or presence of the international coalition in Iraq.
