Italy Appoints Ambassador to Syria

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani indicated today, Friday, that "Italy has decided to appoint an ambassador to Syria to highlight the situation," making it the first country among the Group of Seven industrialized nations to resume its diplomatic mission in Damascus since the civil war ravaged the country. The appointment was announced for the current special envoy to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Syria, Stefano Ravagnan, who is set to assume his role soon, according to Tajani's statement to Reuters.
