"The Progressive" Warns of the "Gunpowder Barrel Explosion" Facing Everyone

The Progressive Socialist Party issued the following statement: "As the chapters of tragedy continue with repeated incidents of drowning and the death of dozens in death boats, and in light of its repeated positions regarding all necessary steps to curb more scenes of migration towards death and to halt the collapse, the Progressive Socialist Party reiterates the slogan it has historically raised and affirmed in the transitional program of the national movement, established by the constitution after the Taif Agreement, and applied in the ministries it represented: Balanced development.

All measures, steps, plans, and programs proposed for recovery or to stop the economic, financial, and social collapse will remain inadequate and ineffective if not complemented by the element of equitable distribution of development among regions, where unfortunately, the fundamental imbalance between them is clearly evident.

If we mention one thing, has anyone in decision-making circles in the state thought of how to benefit from the estimated four billion dollars that tourists and expatriates spent this summer, and how to distribute the economic returns from it to regions that did not receive tourists? Has anyone remembered, for example, that the majority of resorts and entertainment venues benefiting from tourism are built on public property or public lands, and that no actual fees are collected for this exploitation of state properties?

Is there anyone acknowledging that the tourism season, despite its significance, was exclusively for certain areas while others are still suffering under the weight of deprivation? By the way, where are the MPs and ministers from Tripoli and its region in terms of balanced development? What are their detailed social and economic developmental plans, and what are they doing about what is happening?

Moreover, is there anyone who covers, and thus benefits financially, from migration boats? Why are all the names of those involved not disclosed, whoever they may be? The government, like the parliament which is currently reviewing the general budget, is responsible for approving and implementing everything that would bridge this dangerous disparity in development and should couple recognition with action, before the gunpowder barrel represented by migration through death boats explodes in everyone's face."
