What Aoun's Deliberate Departure from the Palace Signified

Deputy Bilal Al-Hachimi expressed in an interview with the electronic newspaper "Anbaa" that "Aoun intentionally left the presidential palace a day before his term ended to suggest he is not desperate for power." He emphasized that "Aoun's phase has ended, bringing with it tragedies and suffering on economic, social, and health levels." He hoped that "what happened would be a nightmare we have awakened from so that we can move on to elect a president who will rescue the country from the hell we have been plunged into." Al-Hachimi described Aoun's signing of the government's resignation as "unnecessary," noting that he had previously conducted parliamentary consultations that resulted in President Najib Mikati being tasked with forming the government, but Aoun did not facilitate this endeavor as required. He viewed Aoun's signature on the government's resignation as a losing tactic to appease public opinion among his supporters.

Al-Hachimi pointed out that Aoun "did nothing over the past six years except appoint his loyalists, which led to his failure in governance because he lacked a unified standard for running the country. This country belongs to everyone, and we cannot establish a state with such a mentality." He questioned, "Is it reasonable to stipulate the appointment of ministers loyal to Gibran Bassil for forming a government because he is uncomfortable with the current ministers cooperating with President Mikati? This is the policy that kept the country without a government for three years and led us to a state of misery and hell."

He called for "the election of a sovereign president who upholds the constitution and the Taif Agreement, who will be an actual head of state, form a government, and collaborate with it to alleviate the suffering of the Lebanese people," even though he anticipated "an extended vacancy in the presidency due to the unsettling comments from Aoun and Bassil."
