In Duhok Province, Iraqi Kurdistan, a wave of severe floods and torrents has struck, with widely circulated videos on social media showing nearly unbelievable scenes. The footage revealed vehicles being swept away by the water, along with damage to several homes. One video documented two individuals trapped in the floodwaters, while a group attempted to rescue them. As one person threw a rope to help, the water unexpectedly overwhelmed him, causing him to lose grip on the rope, leading to the disappearance of the two individuals.
The Civil Defense Directorate in the province announced that two people were missing due to the heavy rainfall that caused flooding. They indicated that Civil Defense teams were mobilized to search for the missing persons and assist those affected by the flood. Public Information Officer Major Biwar Abdulaziz stated, "Floodwaters entered several houses overlooking the Hashkro River in downtown Duhok." He also clarified that the rains caused the death of two individuals who had been reported missing earlier, and their bodies were found in the Nizaraki Tunnel on the main Barzan Street in the city.
Initial reports indicated that more than 30 houses were damaged due to the floods, according to the Iraqi News Agency. Additionally, drivers and residents traveling from Erbil to Duhok were advised not to use the main Barzan Street due to flooding and to opt for the (Badrik) route instead. It is noted that most provinces in Iraq experienced heavy rainfall yesterday and today, resulting in floods in several cities, including Duhok and Erbil.
