Mufti Qablan to Jumblatt: National Necessity Demands Dialogue

The distinguished Ja'fari Mufti Sheikh Ahmad Qablan addressed Samir Geagea, the head of the Lebanese Forces party, stating, "National necessity requires dialogue and partnership culminating in solutions according to national partnership and its constitutional needs. Denying the value of national partnership is a national disgrace. Any national complexities, regardless of their causes, must be resolved through dialogue and not through estrangement, guided by the interests of our national family and based on a consensual democracy that cannot be replaced except by a numerical democracy, which we reject in insistence on constitutional consensus."

He added, "President Nabih Berri is a guarantor of Lebanon in this regard, and the people of the South are masters, leaders, and bearers of a long national history. It is recorded for them that they defeated Israel when some participated in the invasion of Lebanon. They restored the state when some lost it, and they defended it when some attacked it. Today, they are paying the price for Lebanon's sovereignty and existence in the regional balance when some forgot Lebanon's interests. What the people of the South are doing confirms the greatness of Lebanon’s sovereign glory."

"President Nabih Berri has a significant national history, and it suffices that he overturned the May 17 Agreement and led the February 6 Uprising that rescued the state and the country from the comprehensive occupation when some participated in its occupation. The supreme guide for Lebanon is its sovereign interests, which are defended today by those who are unwavering in their commitment to Lebanon's interests."
