Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated today, Monday, that a Turkish cargo ship with a crew of 12 sank off the country's coast in the Black Sea during a storm on Sunday. Authorities have been unable to establish contact with the crew. He noted that rescue teams searched for the missing individuals today, explaining that the ship sank after colliding with a breakwater. The area experienced strong storms on Sunday. The governor's office reported that bad weather prevented aircraft and ships from conducting search operations. Yerlikaya mentioned that the storms and flooding that struck Turkey earlier this week resulted in the deaths of four people in the Batman province in southeastern Turkey, three in Zonguldak, and one other in Diyarbakır in the southeast as well. The Zonguldak governor's office had previously stated that the captain of the Turkish-flagged ship "Kafkametler" reported on Sunday morning that the vessel was drifting toward a breakwater off the Ergli region in the province located in northwestern Turkey.
