A verbal war erupted on X between Colombian President Gustavo Petro and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the Israeli war on Gaza, which Petro deemed a "war of genocide." Petro has severed his country's diplomatic relations with Israel.
On Sunday, Gustavo Petro launched a new attack in response to Netanyahu's reply to his earlier tweet. Petro addressed Netanyahu, saying, "Mr. Netanyahu, history will record you as committing genocide. Dropping bombs on thousands of innocent children, women, and elderly people does not make you a hero. You stand with those who killed millions of Jews in Europe." He added, "Genocide is genocide, regardless of whether the perpetrator is of a certain religion or not." He concluded by stating, "At least try to stop the massacre."
This latest attack from the Colombian president on Netanyahu came in response to Netanyahu's remarks on X on Saturday evening, after Petro had called for the International Criminal Court to issue an arrest warrant for the Israeli Prime Minister. Netanyahu wrote in response to Petro, saying that "Israel receives no lectures from an anti-Semite and Hamas supporter, a terrorist organization that commits genocide, which slaughtered, raped, mutilated, and burned 1,200 innocent people on October 7... Shame on you, President Petro!" Petro had posted on X last Friday, asserting that "Netanyahu will not stop the genocide in Gaza, which necessitates an international arrest warrant against him from the ICC."
