The media office of the Institute of Volcano Seismology, part of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the Far East, announced that "Ebi Cove Volcano has ejected a column of volcanic ash to a height of 2.5 kilometers." The statement noted: "The volcanic ash column ejected by Ebi Cove Volcano on July 5 rose to 2.5 kilometers above sea level and spread three kilometers north of the volcano." The statement also indicates that "the activity of Ebi Cove Volcano poses a danger to local flights." It is worth mentioning that Ebi Cove is a complex stratovolcano with several craters at its summit. The volcano is located in the northern part of Paramushir Island, and its last eruption occurred in mid-November 2016. Due to the risk it poses to air travel, it is marked in orange, indicating it is very active and could erupt at any moment.
