Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, playing for Barcelona, responded to the possibility of retiring from football, following the example of German star Toni Kroos from Real Madrid. Kroos decided that this season would be his last on the pitch, having played his final match for Real Madrid against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final, and will conclude his career by participating in "Euro 2024" this summer.
Lewandowski's contract with Barcelona extends until the end of next season, and it is expected to be his last with the club. In statements reported by the Catalan newspaper "Sport," Lewandowski commented on the timing of his retirement: "My heart will tell me that moment before I make the decision." He added, "I need to feel something first; I don't know when that will happen. It's hard for me to determine it myself, but I need to feel my decision to be sure of it, and right now, I don't have that."
He continued, "I feel very good physically, and that doesn’t mean that I can’t think about retirement. Maybe Kroos felt that moment, but that’s not how I feel." He concluded, "I have trained and worked hard throughout my football career, and that’s what I am reaping the benefits of right now."
