Elon Musk, owner of SpaceX and the platform X (formerly Twitter), stated that the company does not primarily rely on artificial intelligence, during the Milken Institute Global Conference in Los Angeles, USA. Axios reported that although Musk believes that more than 99% of intelligence will ultimately be digital rather than "biological," he sees that current versions of AI systems have not proven beneficial for SpaceX's needs.
Musk said, "I will ask it (AI) questions about the Fermi paradox, about rocket engine design, about electrochemistry, and so far, AI has been poor at all of these questions, so there is still a long way to go." He also mentioned that even Starlink, the company's satellite internet service and a major driver of SpaceX's valuation, does not use AI, explaining, "I'm not against using it. We just haven't seen any benefit from it."
Musk pointed out that he does not know what role humans will play if his theory that digital intelligence will replace biological minds proves correct, adding, "I think it is very important that we build AI in a way that is beneficial to humanity." He continued, "AI should not be taught to lie, and it should not be taught to say untrue things. Even if those things are politically incorrect, it should say what it believes to be true."
