China: Death Toll from Bridge Collapse Rises to 38

Chinese Central Television reported that the death toll from a partial collapse of a highway bridge in Shaanxi province, northwest of the country, two weeks ago has risen to 38. The report stated that 24 individuals are still missing as a result of the disaster that occurred on July 19, with one person rescued afterward. The area where the bridge on the Daning Expressway fell had experienced heavy rainfall in the preceding days. According to Chinese Central Television, at least 25 vehicles fell into the river, and search teams have scoured kilometers upriver in search of victims.
