Al-Safadi: The Danger of War Expansion Increases Day by Day

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Al-Safadi confirmed today, Monday, that the Israeli aggression on Gaza has exceeded all humanitarian, legal, and ethical limits, undermining any argument used to prevent the Security Council from taking a binding decision to halt it. Al-Safadi emphasized, during a phone call with French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, who is presiding over the Security Council this month, that the danger of expanding the war increases with each day that the killing and destruction caused by Israel in Gaza continues.

He stressed that the international community's inability to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities and to take a firm stance enforcing a halt to the aggression reflects a double standard and dangerous selectivity in applying international law, causing significant harm to the status, reputation, and interests of many Western countries.

Al-Safadi and Colonna affirmed the necessity of providing sufficient and immediate humanitarian, food, and medical aid to the entire Gaza Strip, and to continue collaborating on efforts to deliver assistance, including through air drop operations. The two ministers reiterated their countries' positions in rejecting the displacement of Palestinians both within their homeland and abroad and emphasized the right of displaced persons in Gaza to return to their areas in northern Gaza, necessitating that this return begins immediately.

He indicated that the brutal aggression on Gaza will not bring security to Israel, and he and his French counterpart agreed that the two-state solution is the only way to achieve peace and security for everyone in the region. Al-Safadi warned that the illegitimate Israeli procedures and its aggression against Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem are driving the situation towards explosion. He confirmed the necessity for the international community to take a firm and effective position to stop them.

Moreover, it is unacceptable for the international community to allow the Israeli prime minister and the extremist ministers in his government to drag the region into a regional war that directly implicates the West, as a means to prolong the political life of his government, and to condemn the region to more conflict and destruction.

The two ministers confirmed their continued consultations on ways to end the catastrophe in Gaza, building on the outcomes of the summit that brought together His Majesty King Abdullah II and French President Emmanuel Macron in Aqaba on December 21, 2023. It’s noteworthy that Jordan and France have strengthened their partnership in providing humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip through the Royal Medical Services and the Jordanian Hashemite Charity Organization, and France has provided material and medical assistance to support the work of Jordanian field hospitals in the sector.
