Officially... Dubai Airport Ranks Second Worldwide for International and Domestic Passengers in 2023

Dubai International Airport has risen to the second position globally in total numbers of international and domestic passengers combined in 2023, while retaining its lead among airports worldwide in terms of international passenger numbers only, according to a report by the Airports Council International.

According to the Airports Council International, Dubai International Airport reached the second position for the first time globally in total passenger counts, having ranked fifth in 2022 and fourth in 2019, surpassing Dallas Fort Worth Airport in the third position in 2023. Meanwhile, Atlanta Airport remains the largest airport in total numbers of international and domestic passengers in 2023.

Dubai International Airport relies solely on international passenger traffic. The list of the top 5 airports according to total numbers of domestic and international passengers is topped by Atlanta Airport with approximately 104.6 million passengers, a growth of 11.7%. Dubai International Airport comes in second with around 86.99 million passengers, a growth of 31.7%. Dallas Fort Worth ranks third with about 81.75 million passengers, London Heathrow in fourth with about 79.18 million passengers, a growth of 28.5%, and Tokyo in fifth with approximately 78.7 million passengers, a growth of 55.1%.

In the ranking of airports by the number of international passengers for 2023, Dubai International Airport maintained its first position for the tenth consecutive year, thanks to its status as the largest hub for international connections in the world. London Heathrow came in second with about 74.9 million international passengers, a growth of 28.6%, followed by Amsterdam with about 61.88 million passengers, Paris with approximately 61.4 million passengers, and Singapore with about 58.4 million passengers, a growth of 83.1%.

Louis Felipe de Oliveira, the Director General of Airports Council International, stated: "U.S. airports still dominate the top 10 busiest airports, especially Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which retains the top position." He added: "Dubai International Airport jumped to second place for the first time, while Tokyo Haneda Airport made a significant rise from sixteenth place in 2022 to fifth place in 2023."
