Casualties from Forest Fire in Turkey

Turkish media reported that three people died on Monday in a forest fire in a tourist area of İzmir province in western Turkey. The official Anadolu Agency stated that the bodies were found in the area of the fire, located about 70 kilometers southwest of the city of İzmir. The agency noted that efforts are ongoing to control the fire, which broke out for unknown reasons in a forested area in Alaçatı. It was reported that two water-dumping planes, four helicopters, and 16 fire trucks have been deployed, and residents have been evacuated. Turkey has experienced a series of wildfires in recent weeks, with temperatures reaching 40 degrees and above in many provinces for the past month; most of these fires have been quickly contained. Wildfires have affected nearly 44,000 hectares in Turkey in 2024, according to the European Forest Fire Information System.
