Algerian Parliament President Engages in In-Depth Talks with Iranian Counterpart

On Monday, Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf welcomed Algerian People's National Council President Ibrahim Boughali, according to a statement from the People's National Council. The statement noted that the two sides engaged in "in-depth" discussions covering aspects of cooperation between the two countries and reviewing several current issues. During these talks, Boughali emphasized the significance of parliamentary cooperation, highlighting its important role in supporting the economic directions of both countries. He mentioned Algeria's commitment under President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to diversify partnerships and create an encouraging business environment, especially following the implementation of the new investment law, aimed at building a strong, sustainable, and independent economy from hydrocarbon revenues.

The statement added: "The officials addressed several current issues, providing Boughali with the opportunity to underscore the necessity of enhancing the international presence of the Union of Councils of Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, allowing it to assert its presence and amplify the voice of its member countries while effectively and decisively defending the nation's issues and responding to any provocative attempts against its sanctities."

Boughali reaffirmed Algeria's commitment to resolving crises within a peaceful approach that rejects violence and foreign intervention, reiterating Algeria's dedication to defending just causes and garnering support for them, as is the case with the Palestinian and Sahrawi issues.

The statement continued: "Ghalibaf commended the role of this visit in laying additional foundations for bilateral cooperation, reviewing various aspects of this cooperation and the promising prospects it aims to achieve." He also discussed "the importance of coordination between the two countries within the Union of Councils of Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and suggested holding a virtual meeting among the union member countries to consider appropriate responses to the repeated insults to Muslim sanctities that have become concerning in recent days."

The presidents of the two councils held a meeting with the local press, confirming the content of their discussions and their positions regarding issues of mutual interest, according to the statement.
