Swiss police announced in a statement that two people were killed and one remains missing today, Sunday, after severe thunderstorms caused a landslide in the Ticino region in the south of the country. The police mentioned that the landslide occurred in a remote area of the Maggia Valley early this morning. They added that water flooded a bridge near the river mouth in the landslide area, complicating rescue efforts. The identities of the two bodies recovered in the Fontana area of the valley are currently being determined. The police stated that authorities evacuated camping sites along the river, and the landslide also disrupted communications and caused power outages.
