Algeria strongly condemned on Sunday the "project to seize the properties of the Algerian embassy in Morocco," emphasizing that the Algerian government "will respond to these provocations by all means it deems appropriate." In a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was noted that "the Kingdom of Morocco has entered a new stage of escalation in its provocative actions towards Algeria, which has manifested recently through the project to seize the properties of the Algerian embassy in Morocco."
The statement added that Algeria considers this an "egregious violation of the respect for and duty to protect the diplomatic missions of sovereign states, as enshrined in international laws and norms." It highlighted that "the Moroccan project, which contradicts civilized international practices, constitutes a serious deviation from the commitments of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which mandates the respect and protection of embassies located on its territory under any circumstances."
The statement asserted that "Algeria condemns in the strongest terms this described act of confiscation, and it also strongly denounces the illegality and non-compliance with the obligations that every member state of the international community must uphold strictly and responsibly."
The statement concluded that "the Algerian government will respond to these provocations by all means it considers appropriate and will resort to all legal avenues and means available, particularly within the framework of the United Nations, to ensure the respect of its interests."
It is worth mentioning that "the Moroccan Official Gazette" reported that the Moroccan government has expropriated several properties and lands, some of which belong to the Algerian state in Rabat, to expand administrative buildings for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
