Iraqi MP Murtadha Al-Saedi warned today, Monday, about the return of latent terrorist cells due to recent security breaches in the provinces of Diyala, Salah al-Din, and Kirkuk, urging vigilance regarding their danger. Al-Saedi stated in an interview with "Baghdad Today" that "the security breaches that recently struck the provinces of Diyala, Kirkuk, and Salah al-Din, which resulted in martyrs and wounded, have revealed alarming indicators, foremost among them the activity of sleeper cells." He emphasized the "importance of paying attention to their danger and activating intelligence efforts in areas of security gaps, as well as repositioning to help maintain control of the land and prevent any activities by terrorist cells."
He added that "the security situation in Iraq is stable, but sleeper cells remain a direct threat," calling for "the adoption of a principle of integration in terms of coordination among operational commands and ending any gaps that lead to bloodshed." He pointed out the "necessity of giving a larger role to intelligence efforts as we are facing an information war primarily."
He underscored that "returning to square one in the Iraqi security scene is a mirage," stressing the "need for caution regarding sleeper cells and the efforts to dismantle them through direct intelligence work."
It is noteworthy that a security source reported last Saturday, that 8 members of the security forces were martyred and injured in the explosion of two roadside bombs southwest of Baqubah. The source told "Baghdad Today" that "two bombs exploded on a joint force of the awakening and the army near the village of Dawood Al-Salem, 14 km southwest of Baqubah, within the boundaries of Imam Muhammad Sakarani sub-district, resulting in the martyrdom of two awakening members and injuring 6 others, including 3 army members."
Earlier, a security source reported that four Iraqi army soldiers were injured in a roadside bomb explosion in Salah al-Din province. The source stated in an interview with "Baghdad Today" that "a bomb exploded on a military patrol of the Iraqi army near the village of Hafriya east of Tuz Khurmatu in eastern Salah al-Din province," indicating that "the explosion led to injuries among four soldiers, including one in critical condition."
