Lebanese Farah Dakhlallah Becomes First Arab Woman Spokesperson for NATO

Lebanese Farah Dakhlallah has been appointed as the official spokesperson for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) starting March 1. With this appointment, she becomes the first woman of Arab descent to hold this significant international position. This announcement was made in a statement from the office of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who welcomed Dakhlallah and praised her exceptional communication skills, which enhance NATO's role in today's conflict-ridden world and reflect the alliance's vision for resolving such issues while strengthening collective security for its members.

Farah holds a Bachelor's degree in Audio-Visual Arts and Media from Saint Joseph University, obtained in 2004, and later received a diploma in Media and Political Communication from the London School of Economics in 2006. She succeeds the current spokesperson for NATO, Niga Longesco, who served in this role from 2010 until the end of 2023.

Farah Dakhlallah, who also holds a Master's degree in International Relations from the University of Cambridge, class of 2009, has extensive experience in media, communication, and public diplomacy. Her most recent role was as the spokesperson for the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. Previously, she worked in the United Nations Information Management Office for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Damascus, and in the private sector, she served as a media officer for major non-governmental economic institutions, including the Austrian pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca. She has also worked as a translator for various foreign news agencies.
