A New Gateway for Iran to Mediterranean Markets

The governor of Ilam province, Hassan Bahram Nia, stated that the proposed free economic zone to be established in the border city of Mehran with Iraq will develop the Iranian economy and serve as a gateway for Iran to enter the markets of Mediterranean countries. During a coordination meeting to launch the free economic zone in Mehran, which was also attended by the advisor to the Iranian president and the secretary of the Supreme Council of Free and Special Economic Zones in Iran, Nia mentioned that "the free zone in Mehran represents a good opportunity for Ilam province and can develop the province's economy." He pointed out that this free economic zone "has no equivalent in the western part of the country, and considering Iraq's accession to the TIR international land transport system, the free economic zone in Mehran will become directly linked to the port of Latakia, the Mediterranean Sea, and Europe, which distinguishes this free economic zone from other free economic zones in the country." He explained that studies for the launch of this project have been completed, and it is now ready for investors to get involved and begin gradually preparing the infrastructure.
