Czech player Barbora Krejcikova won the Wimbledon championship, the third of the four major tennis tournaments, by defeating Italian Jasmine Paolini. This victory marks Krejcikova's second Grand Slam title. The 32nd-ranked Krejcikova won the match against the 7th-ranked Paolini with scores of 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, adding the grass court title to her 2021 Roland Garros victory. The former world number two will rise to tenth place in the rankings following her achievement at the All England Club. On the other hand, 28-year-old Paolini lost her second consecutive major final, having previously fallen to world number one Iga Swiatek at Roland Garros, 2-6, 1-6. Despite her loss, she will climb to fifth in the world rankings on Monday.
Barbora Krejcikova after winning the Wimbledon title: "I still can't believe it, and I think no one believes what happened, no one thought I would reach the final, and no one believes that I won the Wimbledon title."
