A spokesperson for the German Ministry of Economy indicated today, Sunday, that "Berlin is preparing a report with proposals aimed at modernizing the country's defense industries, without providing additional details." They added: "I can confirm that the government is working on a strategic report to update the defense and security industry, which is being developed across several departments," confirming an earlier report published by the newspaper "Handelsblatt."
The newspaper mentioned that the strategic report will include provisions that would allow for the rapid approval of building weapons factories in Germany. Handelsblatt stated that the tripartite coalition in Germany intends to adopt this document in August. This news comes shortly after the German weapons manufacturer Rheinmetall and its Italian counterpart Leonardo agreed this month to establish a joint venture for producing tanks and other defense systems.
