The town of Lasa in the Jbeil mountains is experiencing notable tension following an incident that escalated into gunfire, resulting in one person being injured. The area has been cordoned off by a military force that is working to maintain order. Meanwhile, the municipality of Afqa in Jbeil has denied reports circulating in some media outlets and on social media about clashes and injuries in the town, stating that "the town did not witness any security incident at all."
In its statement, representing itself and its residents, the municipality affirmed its "constant support for the security forces in carrying out their duties," and urged media outlets to exercise caution before publishing such news to preserve their credibility and maintain social harmony in the Jbeil district. Additionally, it called on some politicians to "stop sectarian and regional incitement that harms the image of the Jbeil region and to refrain from politically exploiting certain events, especially in these sensitive circumstances that our beloved Lebanon is going through."
