The Iraqi Federal Integrity Commission reported today, Wednesday, the execution of two operations to address cases of public fund misuse and manipulation in the Kut Municipality and the Housing Fund in Wasit, confirming the execution of arrest warrants against nine suspects.
The Iraqi Media and Government Communications Office in the commission stated in a release that "the investigating judge specialized in integrity cases issued an arrest warrant for six employees of the Kut Municipality, following a monitoring team from the Wasit Office that found the municipality failed to collect the rent for the 'Dreams Tourist City' amounting to 60,659,816 Iraqi dinars, as referred by the Wasit Investment Authority. Additionally, they did not collect the late fees and did not ensure that the equipment and games in the city met the technical specifications, despite the city being operational for over a year."
It noted that "the arrest was executed according to the provisions of Article 340 of the Penal Code."
The office added that "an arrest warrant was also executed against three employees of the Housing Fund in Wasit, who are members of the inspection committee, after suspicions of corruption were detected, and the fund's employees granted two loans totaling 138,000,000 Iraqi dinars for building two houses on plots of land based on 'fictitious' records."
It continued that "the team observed the existence of structures 'for building a house' contrary to reality, after moving to the land site with a surveyor from the Real Estate Registration Directorate, where it became evident that there were no structures present," indicating that "a specialized team from the office moved to the fund and was able to seize the original documents related to the borrowers."
