After the "Holiday Break": No Return to Schools

After the

The chaos in schools is returning. After two years of open and repeated strikes, it seems we are back to square one. This time, the stoppage of education and strikes is reminiscent of 2023. Nasrin Shaheen, head of the active committee for contract teachers in formal primary education, told MTV: "We are definitely heading towards a strike, but it is still unclear whether it will be an open strike or organized chaos due to some being unable to go to schools and others deciding that a little is better than nothing," noting that "the final decision will be made before Monday." She adds, "So far, according to the surveys we are conducting, some schools may head towards a strike while others may not. Additionally, some teachers may show up while others may be absent. Thus, schools are heading towards a form of chaos."

Regarding the reason for the strike, she points out that "to this day, teachers have not obtained any of their rights, nor have we received any incentives. Since last year until today, we have not received the $90 we were promised, and we have not received transportation allowances since February."

Shaheen speaks about a scandal regarding the incentives allocated to teachers, saying: "They place $60 million in their trust and manage it. They benefit from it through 'Sayrafa' to pay public sector salaries." She concludes: "The promises of the Minister of Education Abbas Halabi are illusory, as we have not received the 'fresh' funds we were promised. They make teachers work under coercion through a conspiracy between the associations governed by political parties and the minister to advance the academic year." Thus, the fate of the academic year is uncertain. Will it "affect the students" this year as well?
