French Prime Minister Commits to Supporting Family Finances Amid Rise of Far Right and Left

French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal pointed out that "the coalition of President Emmanuel Macron, affiliated with the center, will reduce electricity bills, inheritance tax, and link pension salaries to inflation if it wins the early elections, in an effort to counter the rise of the far right and the formation of a new leftist bloc." The ruling coalition "Together" is seen as the least favored party in the parliamentary elections called by Macron after suffering a heavy defeat against the far-right National Rally party in this month's European Parliament elections. The early elections are scheduled to take place in two rounds on June 30 and July 7. Macron's coalition campaigns emphasize appearing as a bulwark for democratic values and prudent economic management that protects the nation from extremists on both ends of the political spectrum. Attal stated that the policies promoted by both the National Rally and the new leftist coalition known as the Popular Front would lead to mass unemployment. He added in a press conference: "Let us not leap from a great height into the unknown without a parachute."
