UEFA President Aleksandar Čeferin called on all parties in the continent on Wednesday to help eliminate the riots and violence he described as a "cancer eating away at football," just days after a man was killed in clashes before a match between AEK Athens and Dinamo Zagreb in Greece. After meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Athens, Čeferin stated that "the problem encompasses all of Europe, and cooperation is needed to prevent the recurrence of such incidents." He added, "Violence and riots are a cancer eating away at football, and these are not fans of the game. We have reached a point where we all must work to prevent these incidents." Mitsotakis noted that "violence and riots are not solely a Greek problem," adding that European countries, institutions, and media must work together to help end violence in football.
