Netanyahu Cancels War Cabinet and Forms

Israeli Broadcasting Authority announced today, Monday, that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has informed government ministers of the cancellation of the War Cabinet, following a request from National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir to join it. Israeli media reported that after canceling the War Cabinet, Netanyahu will form a new council called the "Small Kitchen."

The War Cabinet represents the narrowest political and security body in Israel and is responsible for making political decisions during wartime. Last Sunday, Israeli Minister Benny Gantz announced his resignation from the War Cabinet, along with government members Gadi Eisenkot and Minister Hili Trooper from the State Camp party.

The political and security cabinet discussed steps to enhance settlement in the West Bank, including reactions to some countries recognizing a Palestinian state unilaterally after October 7, as well as a series of measures to be taken against the Palestinian Authority due to its activities against Israel in international forums. The Defense Minister and the government's legal advisor requested additional time to provide their comments on some proposed measures.
