The U.S. Department of State has advised American citizens against traveling to Bangladesh due to the ongoing protests and clashes between demonstrators and police there. The embassy stated: "Travel advice for Bangladesh – Do not travel there." Additionally, the State Department has allowed U.S. government employees who are not performing essential emergency duties, as well as their family members, to leave Bangladesh. The embassy noted: "Terrorist attacks could occur without warning, targeting public places, tourist sites, transportation hubs, markets, shopping centers, restaurants, places of worship, schools, and government offices." Mass protests against the quota system in government jobs in Bangladesh have been ongoing for several weeks, escalating in recent days amid clashes between protesters and police, resulting in hundreds of casualties on both sides.
