An explosive attack killed several youths in Somalia who had gathered to watch the European Cup final on Sunday night. Five people were killed in a car bomb explosion in a crowded cafe in Mogadishu, according to local media reports citing the police. Police spokesman Abdul Fattah Aden Hassan told official media, "Initial police reports indicate that five people were killed and about 20 others were injured." Somali National Television provided a similar casualty count. Local sources reported that the "Top Coffee" cafe was screening the final match between Spain and England when a car bomb exploded nearby. Local media published images of a massive fireball and columns of smoke rising into the sky as a result of the explosion. Several local media outlets stated that the explosion was caused by a suicide bomber or a car bomb. The militant group Al-Shabaab, linked to Al-Qaeda, has previously carried out many bombings and other attacks in Mogadishu and other parts of the troubled country. On Saturday, five prisoners believed to be fighters from the extremist group were killed in a shootout during an escape attempt from the main prison in Mogadishu. Three guards were also killed and 18 others were injured, according to prison authorities.
