The German newspaper "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" and the German news agency report, citing informed sources separately, that "European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will win another term in her position under an agreement reached among major political parties and groups." The newspaper mentioned that negotiators from the three centrist political groups agreed on a package of decisions that includes appointing former Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa as President of the European Council and Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas in charge of EU foreign policy. The trio was widely expected to take on these positions; however, EU leaders have not yet approved this package of appointments after meeting for an official dinner last week. Leaders are set to discuss the matter again during a summit in Brussels on Thursday and Friday.
