The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nabih Berri, and Democratic Gathering member, MP Wael Abo Faour, discussed the developments in the general situation, political updates, and the repercussions of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, in addition to legislative matters, at the second presidential headquarters in Ain el-Tineh.
After their meeting, Abo Faour stated, "We hope the truce that began in Palestine will be sustainable, leading to a halt of the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, and hopefully extending to a calm on the Lebanese-Palestinian border, as well as ceasing the Israeli attacks and crimes. Perhaps this calm, which we hope will be lasting, presents an opportunity for renewed Lebanese discussions to address all the long-awaited issues, primarily the presidential election and the vacancy in security and military institutions."
He added, "We are working towards positive outcomes in this matter. As I mentioned, if the primary motive is the Israeli aggressions, that motive still exists and can recur at any moment. We hope the period of calm will encourage further discussions regarding the presidential election, which might soon see some movement due to various emissaries from multiple parties and countries. The second issue concerns the vacancy in security institutions, which must be handled with a state-centric approach, prioritizing state logic and the preservation of institutions and their essential roles during this phase."
The Speaker also received a delegation that included former Minister of Economy and Trade Mohammad Choucair, Chairman of the Economic and Social Council Charles Arabid, President of the Beirut Traders Association Nicolas Chammas, General Secretary of the General Labor Union Bashar Asmar, and Vice Presidents of the General Labor Union Hassan Fakih and Saad al-Din Hamidi Saqr. They reviewed the general conditions, particularly economic and social issues, requirements, and the repercussions of the Israeli aggression on Lebanon and its overall impact on the general situation in the country.
