A tuk-tuk driver from Luxor, southern Egypt, has captured the attention of many Egyptians on social media in recent hours after returning a significant amount of money to its owner. After finding 350,000 Egyptian pounds inside a black bag abandoned on the road in the village of Namsa, which falls under the Esna district, yesterday, the driver, Mohamed Yahya, sought to find the owner to return the money.
He stated that he discovered the bag lying near a desert entrance, and when he opened it, he was surprised to find a large sum of money along with a medical transfer letter for one of the hospitals, according to local media reports. He emphasized that curiosity did not compel him to count the money since it did not belong to him.
One hour after finding the money, a car passed by, and its passengers inquired about a black bag they had lost in that area, appearing anxious and worried. At that moment, Yahya initially denied having found the bag to test the family and began asking the passengers questions to ensure they were the original owners of the money.
The medical letter was the key that confirmed the family's claim. Yahya explained that the man told him the bag contained a sum of money and a medical letter stamped by one of the hospitals. At that point, the tuk-tuk driver was reassured that they were the rightful owners of the money, bringing him peace of mind.
Yahya described the immense joy that overcame the bag's owner, who later turned out to be coming from Cairo with his family for medical treatment for one of his children at the public hospital. Although the father rushed to offer a part of the money to the driver as a reward for his honesty, he refused.
This story created a stir on social media, with many praising the tuk-tuk driver's integrity, as he declined to take the large sum that could have resolved his financial issues and debts. His honesty prevented him from keeping what did not belong to him.
