Microsoft Plans $2.4 Billion Investment in Spain

Microsoft will invest 2.2 billion euros (2.37 billion dollars) in a new project to establish data centers in Aragon, as announced by the government of this northeastern Spanish region on Wednesday, which aims to become a cloud computing hub. With this project, added to other initiatives previously announced by the American tech giant over the past few years, Microsoft's total planned investments in the region will reach 6.7 billion euros, according to Aragon's regional president Jorge Azcón.

Microsoft's decision to invest in data centers in Aragon follows six weeks after Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced a 15.7 billion euro (16.89 billion dollars) investment project over ten years to increase the capacity of its data centers in the same region. Azcón stated in a press conference, "This is amazing news for the Aragon economy," highlighting the significant economic benefits expected from this investment. He affirmed that this would encourage "other companies" to make similar decisions. In October, Microsoft announced the new data center project, aimed at "providing cloud computing services to European businesses and public institutions," although the company did not specify the size of the investment at that time.
